Welcome to Yoga Trek! Whether this is the beginning of your yoga journey or you are just new to our studio, we are glad you are joining us. All you really need in order to start a yoga practice is a curious mind, a willing body, and the ability to show up! We hope this list of frequently asked questions will support you in having a positive experience when you arrive.

I’m not flexible! Why should I bother? We hear this one a lot. Yoga helps to build flexibility, build strength, and create balance. So that’s why you should bother! You don’t need to know how to do the poses to come and learn the poses. Which means, you don’t have to be flexible to gain flexibility. So there.

What should I wear?Wear exercise pants or shorts that are loose-fitting enough so that you can easily move into and out of the postures. Ideally your feet and ankles will be exposed. Wear a top that can be tucked in or is tight-fitting so that when you do an inversion (head below the heart) your shirt won’t float over your head uncomfortably. In colder months bring layers so that as you warm up and cool down you will be comfortable. Socks are not worn during the practice as you can easily slip-n-slide on the mat but feel free to have them handy for the closing part of your practice.

What should I bring?Yoga Trek provides mats and props to support your postures. You can also bring your own mat and props as you wish. Especially in winter months it can be helpful to bring a water bottle to support hydration (as with any activity that might cause you to sweat or exert yourself!). Some students bring a hand towel or wash cloth depending upon their sweat factor. Trust that if you just show up with your self in tow, you will be well taken care of!

Where are you located and where can I park? See Location

What if I have pain or a previous injury? It is always appropriate to share with your teacher(s) about any existing physical conditions and concerns you may have about them.  Yoga does help many people with chronic pain by helping the body regain its balance in the body’s strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and awareness.  If you are under a healthcare provider’s care for an acute situation, please be sure you discuss taking yoga classes with him or her first.  In some cases, it is more appropriate to work one-on-one with a teacher at the beginning of your practice to enable you to learn necessary modifications and develop a comfort with managing your condition while in a group class.

Which class should I take?See How to Choose a Class

Do I need to sign up before I come or can I just show up?Come on in! You don’t have to pre-register for any of our classes. Pick the one you want to attend and just come about 10-15 minutes before the class start time. We will ask you to complete a client information form when you arrive to give us a sense of your yoga experience and connect you to the studio. You can pay for your class when you arrive – you do not need to pre-pay. The only exception to this is that for some workshops we do encourage pre-registration and pre-payment to secure your spot, but those instances are clearly identified and often you can pay for those items online. This includes the four-week Intro to Yoga series for which you can pre-pay via the website.

How much does it cost?Yoga Trek has a variety of ways for you to pay for your classes. You can pay a drop-in rate each time you come or purchase a 10-class or 5-class card (3-month expiration) at a discounted per-class rate. We also have a student rate, as well as a weekly free community yoga class. See our pricing page for more details.

Is it worth it if I can only come once per week?Absolutely. Yoga classes are intended to support your creation of an individually driven practice. Not everyone can bear the time or expense of attending a class every day. At Yoga Trek we have highly-trained teachers that will not only ensure you have a great class experience, but also that you are positioned to experience yoga on your own turf and on your own time when you are ready. You will without a doubt feel a difference in your body and mind through a weekly practice. Of course, the more you practice, the more quickly you will experience this transformation, but you have to do what is right for you. And you might just find yourself creating time you didn’t know you had to get to that second class per week!

I don’t know anything about yoga. Where can I learn more?Students learn about yoga through experiencing the practice, so know that you don’t have to do a lot of reading or studying in order to become knowledgeable. What Students Say

"The prenatal yoga class was fantastic. Peggy really helped make all the poses both challenging and accessible to everyone in the class with their constantly changing bodies. It was also nice to be part of a group of women in all different stages of their pregnancies. My baby is one month old and I wish I could still go every week!"
